Traffic Lights Update - 23rd November 2021

A quick update on the latest from government

Traffic Lights live – 11:59pm Thursday 2nd December

Legislation – being passed this week (so still not sure what it says)

Sector Guidance – being produced (hopefully this week) – presumably this will help you decide if you are retail or hospitality and may answer questions on things like sports

What light will show on Dec 3rd? – No-one will start at Green; Auckland will be red; the rest will be broadly dependent on vaccination levels – let’s hope Orange for Canterbury

Vaccination Certificates

– If you decide to use vaccination certificate requirements, there will be a verifier app available to help you manage customers

– If you decide to use vaccination certificate requirements, you must have consulted with staff, as adopting this policy will mean no unvaccinated employee may work from 3rd December. You will need to pay these staff members four weeks’ notice if they are being dismissed due to not being able to comply with this requirement.

– If an employee decides that they will get the vaccination in order to keep their job, they will need to take leave (after 3rd December) in order to get themselves fully vaccinated (two vaccinations).

– If you decide not to use vaccination certificate requirements, you will not need to require customers or staff to be vaccinated, however, you must be prepared for the fact that you may need to close down or operate under severe restrictions in each traffic light.
