Using older workers to enhance your business

Ashridge in the UK have criticised HR professionals for not supporting older workers enough.  Do you, like these HR folk, focus just on how to help them retire (and maybe how quickly)?  Or have you realised that many of them have potential and want to continue to grow?

Only 1% of the HR processes focused on career development for workers aged over 50.

Stop and think for a moment about yourselves and those you know at work in this bracket.  What advantages can these mature workers bring?  Words like loyalty; wisdom; patience; reliability; and deep learning (as opposed to superficiality) - spring to mind.  So given we don't have an automatic retirement age, how about focusing on how to make good use of them - and keep the training requirements going!
