Trends in Performance Management

I have come across some clear trends in companies that want to make a difference in managing their staff performance.  Over the last 4 years the extent of focus on career planning; on planned development and in tracking performance have all doubled, while incidences of meaningful feedback have trebled.

My thanks to Cognology for publishing data from their own clients over the 2010-14 period.  These are areas of management which I totally endorse and on which the Essential HR performance review forms focus.  But to achieve this you need to plan and you need to monitor.  

So ask yourself - do you help your staff to develop themselves and their career?  Do you give them regular feedback to encourage them and help them improve? And do you have goals that are easily measured and where the employee can track their own performance?  It can be so easy to provide positive motivation - with just a little effort or help.
