Parental Leave

Changes to the law around parental leave take effect from 1 April 2015

For any child born or adopted on or after 1 April; or any child whose expected date of delivery is on or after 1 April (even if born before) your employee (or yourself if self-employed) will now be entitled to 16 weeks IRD paid parental leave payments.  In another year this will increase again – to 18 weeks.

The same eligibility criteria apply and there are still numerous regulations around how parental leave is managed.  The person on parental leave must still not work at all during the paid period or their IRD payments will stop.

If you need help to ensure you don’t miss something, I have a comprehensive summary and all the related documents/templates.
