We have had a few questions about ‘on-call’ rates. What’s fair reimbursement for being able to respond outside of normal hours and what accepted standards are there?
The Industrial Relations Centre at Victoria University in Wellington provided some interesting figures. Latest trends show 7% of collectives include a flat rate/allowance and 5% have an hourly rate. Overall, allowances seem to be reasonably standard and fairly minimal. Time and a half for hours called out, subject to a minimum per call out; and a weekly allowance for being available (this is dependent on just how close by you have to be).
