Caring and Flexibility

Over 430,000 New Zealanders fit the description of a carer and some 90% of them are aged between 18 and 65, with the majority working full or part-time.  Such workers may battle to maintain full hours but will repay, in bucket-loads of loyalty, an organisation that helps them meet their caring responsibilities.

The Ministry of Social Development and Carers new Zealand have recently launched a set of new resources for carers - on www.carers.net.nz  Even making your staff aware of these may be a real help to them.  But if you want to be a good employer, take a look at http://www.carersair.net.nz/work-care-information-employers - there are a number of suggestions here for employers (big and small) to consider if they want to be seen to help their staff who are also carers.
